1. Let's Roll
To start painting, remove light fixtures and decorative items and cover immovables like air conditioning units and plants. For large exteriors, use scaffolding. Have a sturdy ladder on hand. Use tools like a steel wire brush, garden hose, safety goggles, and a mask for safety.
2. Cleaning
Walls are cleaned using a steel wire brush to remove algae, fungi and mildew. Mild solution (like bleaching powder in water) can also be used to get rid of mildew and algae from the walls. The walls need to dry completely. High pressure water jet can also be used to wash away dirt and any old paint flakes.
3. Surface Prepration
It is important to attend to cracks on a priority basis. Cut in along the length of the crack using a knife. Crack Filling compounds are used to fill in the cracks. Surface is then sanded using sandpaper to even out the surface.
4. Painting
Paint on the exterior of a house protects it from the extreme weather conditions it is subjected to. Minimum of 2 coats will be applied to achieve durable, consistent layer. For long lasting results, it is recommended to regularly clean the surface after painting. The neighbouring color scheme should also be considered when choosing colours. It is also possible for the external environment to influence the overall appearance of the house.
